Why Clash Meta became Mihomo

What changed with the rename, what did not change, and what to check when downloading a client now.

Who it is for

People who notice the same thing called Clash Meta in one place and Mihomo in another, and worry about downloading the wrong file.

Before you read

  • Know that client and core are separate layers
  • Have the name of the client you want to download

Key ideas

  1. 1

The rename mainly came from confusion with other projects in the ecosystem, and from trademark concerns.

  2. 2

It only affects the core project name. The profile format is unchanged: still YAML.

  3. 3

Client names largely stayed the same. Clash Verge Rev is still Clash Verge Rev.

  4. 4

So when Clash Meta and Mihomo point at the same thing, you are not misreading it.

Common confusion

Assuming profiles must change too

The format did not change. Existing profiles still work.

Finding an abandoned repo under the old name

Check the repository URL and last commit date, not just the project title.

Next step

Open a client page to confirm its official entry and current version.
